Established in 2016 on the basis of a strategic partnership between the Polytechnic University of Bari and Openwork s.r.l, an independent software provider specialized in the development of enterprise solutions based on business process management, the Business Process Management Competence Center carries out research, technology transfer, and third mission activities in Business Process Management (BPM).

The Center is particularly interested in innovating and supporting the digital transformation of healthcare processes, public administration, and production processes, with a focus on the sectors most relevant to the regional economy, for example textiles, wood-furniture, automotive components, and mechanical industries.

The Center also conducts research on how to innovate methods and technologies in order to improve the reachness of BPM (that is, the ability to support processes that span multiple organizations) and richness/ambidexterity (that is, the ability to address process criticalities while at the same time transforming opportunities and visions into new processes). All research activities are carried out by leveraging Industry 4.0 enabling technologies and green/sustainable business process management methods and techniques.

With regard to technology transfer and third mission activities, the Center supports companies interested in improving and digitally transforming their business processes. The Center also organizes lifelong learning courses, seminars, and workshops on process organizations, business process management, and, more generally, business administration.
