Master’s Degree Programme in Energy Engineering – PoliBa
Overview
The Master's Degree Programme in Energy Engineering, jointly delivered by Polytechnic University of Bari and from theUniversity of Salento, aims to train master's engineers capable of employing with competence and flexibility, the production and use of energy technologies, in its various forms, with particular reference to renewable sources and to thehydrogen, to the sustainable management of energy infrastructures.
Specifically, two curricula are delivered in Italian at the campus of Bari, and are respectively dedicated to:
- DISTRIBUTED GENERATION AND FINAL USES OF ENERGY
- SUSTAINABLE ENERGY PRODUCTION
- At the University of Salento, at the teaching campus of Lecce, the curriculum is offered in ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURES.
The training project is structured as follows:
- 1st year: There are predominantly advanced courses in the core disciplines (fluid machinery, energy systems, representation methods, electrical systems, electrical machines, technical physics).
- 2nd year: a wide range of subjects in related fields and elective courses is available in the areas of mechanics, economics and management, automation, computer science, and environmental sustainability. Many courses include design, experimentation, and analysis activities in teaching and research laboratories.

Educational Objectives
The education of Master's Degree Programme in Energy Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Bari and of theUniversity of Salento is aimed at creating a professional profile with a strong inclination toward innovation and interdisciplinarity, capable of operating in the context of the energy transition which provides for the gradual phase-out of fossil fuels and the introduction of new technologies based on renewable energy sources.
For this purpose, theacademic offer aims to provide a solid scientific and technical-applied preparation in the core disciplines of energy engineering, in order to enable easy further study and updating of the knowledge necessary to ensure a high professionalism of the role of the modern energy engineer, equally applicable both in Italy and abroad.

The Skills
The energy engineer master's degree typically performs design, research and development, and management functions for plants/infrastructure for the production, distribution, and end uses of energy.
The educational process of the degree programme is aimed at training a master's graduate capable of:
- selecting energy sources and optimizing energy use;
- designing and managing energy infrastructures that are sustainable and resilient;
- assessing theenvironmental impact of energy production and distribution plants;
- using information and telecommunications technologies to optimize performance;
- understanding the functioning of energy markets and assessing their dynamics;
- assessing thesocio-economic impact of energy technologies, assessing their environmental implications.
The degree programme promotes and encourages student participation in student mobility calls through Erasmus calls e agreements with foreign universities with the awarding of double degrees.
EMPLOYMENT OUTCOMES
Professional opportunities
I master's graduates in Energy Engineering will be able to find employment in employment at:
- industrial companies in the energy, mechanical, electrical sectors,
- in the departments of research and development, production, sales;
- professional firmsin civil and industrial plant engineering;
- public and private bodies operating in the sector of energy production and conversion, energy supply, and research and development bodies in the field of innovative energy technologies;
- companies providing goods and services in the field of energy, Energy Service Company (ESCOs);
- companies for the design, construction and installation of plants for the production of thermal and electrical energy from fossil and renewable sources.
At the end of the master's programme, the master's graduate in Energy Engineering may sit the State Examination for the profession of Industrial Engineer (type A).
