Skills and curricula
The Degree Course, structured into 4 study plans, includes the core disciplines of Civil Engineering. Each curriculum includes highly professionalizing courses and a common, interdisciplinary “Design Laboratory” for synthesis and comparison, also with entities external to the Polytechnic.
- Geotechnics: issues related to soil and rock mechanics and to the design and verification of structures and infrastructures interacting with the subsoil are explored in depth, as well as the stability of natural or artificial slopes, under static and dynamic conditions.
- Hydraulics: systems for the prediction and mitigation of floods and droughts, the management control of urban, extra-urban, and agricultural water supply networks, and the design of hydraulic works are studied.
- Facilities: specialist aspects of the design of new structures and infrastructures are explored in depth; risk analysis and monitoring; safety assessment and upgrading of the existing building and infrastructure heritage, with particular attention to seismic issues.
- Transport infrastructure and systems: issues concerning the design and management of transport and road infrastructures (road and rail), sustainable mobility, freight transport and sustainable logistics, and road safety are explored in depth.
An agreement for a “Double Degree” is active between the Polytechnic University of Bari – DICATECh and theGrenoble Alpes University. It originates from the Alliance of European Research and Technology Laboratories ALERT Geomaterials of which the Polytechnic University of Bari is a member. Students, following an international study programme in English, obtain a double degree: in France, with thesis defense at Université Grenoble Alpes; in Italy, with thesis defense at the Polytechnic University.
In addition, various ERASMUS+ agreements are active with prestigious European and non-European institutions, where it is possible to gain study and internship experience.
EMPLOYMENT OUTCOMES
Professional opportunities
Professional fields include innovation and production development, advanced design, planning and programming, and the management of complex and/or innovative systems, both in freelance practice and in construction companies and public administrations.
Interdisciplinary skills enable professional and employment opportunities at:
- construction companies and maintenance of civil works, plants, and civil infrastructures;
- professional firms and design companies for works, plants, and infrastructures;
- public design offices, planning, management and control of urban and territorial systems;
- companies, bodies, consortia and agencies of management and control of systems of works and services;
- service company for the urban impact feasibility study and territorial planning of civil engineering infrastructure and for the management of civil facilities and infrastructure;
- university and research institutions.
The educational pathway guarantees the attainment of the requirements and the Master's Degree qualification necessary for theadmission to theState Examination, qualifying for registration with theProfessional Order of Engineers Register sec. A Civil-Environmental.
