POLIBA MASTER'S DEGREES | SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY ENGINEERING
Master's Degree Course in Sustainable Mobility Engineering | Polytechnic University of Bari
Overview
The Master's Degree Course in Sustainable Mobility Engineering provided by Polytechnic University of Bari falls within the class of Safety Engineering and aims to provide the skills, knowledge, and abilities necessary to plan, program, and control transport systems, services, and networks, as well as to design low environmental impact solutions in support of the efficiency and safety of traditional and smart mobility systems and services.
POLIBA MASTER'S DEGREES | SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY ENGINEERING
Educational Objectives
The educational pathway is intended for first-level engineering graduates with a solid background in the basic sciences and aims to train specialist graduates capable of integrating safety and sustainability into systems, in infrastructures and engineering solutions for sustainable mobility, that is, of conceiving, designing, and managing plans, systems, and processes in a complex system such as mobility. This field, in fact, requires the development of innovations aimed at reducing environmental impact and improving energy efficiency, while simultaneously ensuring the safety and quality of life of users.
The analysis of the evolution of mobility services that has taken place in recent years, and the projection of what will need to be implemented for future generations, makes it necessary to train cross-disciplinary professionals capable of addressing the new challenges of sustainable mobility, integrating the various strategies for mitigating the impacts of transport on the territory and promoting the ecological and digital transition.
This approach not only stimulates technological innovation, but also the adoption of sustainable practices that improve quality of life and strengthen the safety of transport systems, reflecting the evolution of engineering in an increasingly interconnected and multidisciplinary context.

The Skills
Alongside the safety objectives, the training aims to develop skills oriented toward the application of infrastructure design techniques for active mobility and transport vehicle management also in the field of smart mobility. In particular, in the field of measurements, analyses, and decision support for mobility, skills will be provided in the analysis and processing of large quantities of data, in extracting value from big data.
Furthermore, the degree course aims to frame the design of transport systems toward environmental, economic, and social sustainability by providing skills relating:
- to low environmental impact transport solutions, also in the field of logistics, such as, for example, electric or hybrid vehicles and sharing systems, through the optimization of the use of energy resources;
- to software tools and methodologies for the analysis of transport scenarios, for example for the definition of travel times, of pollutant emissions and for cost-benefit and multicriteria assessments;
- to theaccessibility and theequity of transport systems, taking into account the needs of all categories of users of these systems, including vulnerable road users.
EMPLOYMENT OUTCOMES
Professional opportunities
Graduates can expect job opportunities in public and private companies, urban planning bodies, engineering consulting firms, and organizations involved in sustainable development in the transport sector. The skills acquired make them suitable for roles requiring an integrated vision of sustainability, innovation, and transport service management.
