Three-year term 2025-2028, Mariagrazia Dotoli, President of the Italian Society of Professors and Researchers in Automatic Control

Professor of Automatic Control at the Politecnico di Bari, she was elected in Perugia

September 9, 2025

Mariagrazia Dotoli, full professor of Automatic Control at the Politecnico di Bari, was elected President of the Italian Society of Teachers and Researchers in Automatic Control (SIDRA) for the next three-year term 2025-2028. She succeeds, as of October 1, Professor Sauro Longhi of the Università Politecnica delle Marche.

Founded in 2006, SIDRA is the reference point for Italian professors and researchers in the scientific-disciplinary sector of Automatic Control (IINF/04). The society coordinates the activities of the Italian academic community through broad-ranging initiatives: conferences, doctoral school, training, networking activities, and awards for young researchers. Over the years, it has helped make Italian research more competitive in a key sector for technological transition, with impacts on mobility, energy, robotics, and smart cities.

The election of Professor Dotoli to the Presidency of SIDRA took place during the event “Automatica.it 2025”, the traditional national gathering that brings together the Italian automatic control community every year, held in Perugia-Assisi (3-5 September).

Together with Dotoli, the society will be led by the council members: Maide Bucolo (University of Catania), Alberto Leva (Politecnico di Milano), Andrea Monteriù (Università Politecnica delle Marche), Lucia Pallottino (University of Pisa).

Mariagrazia Dotoli already holds other prominent positions within the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world's largest engineering association. She is Vice President for Membership and Student Activities of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society and a member of the Administrative Committee of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society.

Her scientific curriculum includes more than 300 publications and the distinction of IEEE Fellow, one of the highest honors in engineering. She is Senior Editor of IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering. She served as Vice Rector for Research at Poliba and founded and coordinated the PhD in Industry 4.0 and the National PhD in Autonomous Systems.

The appointment of a professor from Poliba to lead SIDRA represents an important recognition of the role that the Politecnico di Bari and the Apulian scientific community play in contributing decisively to the growth of a strategic sector for technological innovation and the sustainable development of the country, such as automatic control.
