The Executive Board of theItalian Association for Traffic and Transport Engineering (AIIT) has appointed Professor Nadia Giuffrida, Associate Professor at the Polytechnic University of Bari, affiliated with the Transport sector at the Department of Civil, Environmental, Land, Building and Chemical Engineering (DICATECh). Professor Giuffrida succeeds Michela Le Pira, a faculty member at the University of Catania.
For the next three-year period 2026-2029, Professor Giuffrida will coordinate and supervise the Association’s scientific activities and thematic Working Groups and will coordinate the TIS Rome International Conference (Transport Infrastructure and Systems), one of the main events promoted by AIIT.
Nadia Giuffrida, from Sicily, earned her PhD in 2018 in Assessment and Mitigation of Urban and Territorial Risks at the University of Catania. She subsequently served as a postdoctoral researcher at the Spatial Dynamics Lab of University College Dublin. She has worked at the Politecnico di Bari in the Transport sector at DICATECh since 2022 and has been an Associate Professor since 2025. Her research activity focuses on transport planning and is documented by more than 70 scientific publications and by her participation, as a speaker, in numerous national and international conferences. A member of AIIT since 2015, she has participated in the organizing and scientific committees of the TIS Rome international conferences of 2019, 2022 and 2024.
AIIT is a national technical-scientific association founded in 1952 that brings together members of the academic, professional and institutional communities active in the fields of mobility, traffic, infrastructure and transport. Through research, training and outreach initiatives, it promotes exchange among the various areas of expertise in the sector and contributes to the development of more efficient, safer and more sustainable transport systems.
The election of Prof. Giuffrida represents important recognition of her scientific and professional career and strengthens the presence of the Polytechnic University of Bari in the national and international debate on mobility, traffic and transport systems.
