Cyberchallenge, the Poliba team in the top ten of the 2025 final

The Poliba team for cybersecurity is growing and strengthening. At the national final of CyberChallenge.IT, the leading Italian training and youth competition program in the field of information security, the team from the Polytechnic University of Bari also stood out in this 2025 edition, placing ninth. The competition took place from 6 to 8 July at the ITCILO UN Campus in Turin, and 40 teams took part, coming from various Italian universities, from the Training Command and School of Application of the Army in Turin, and from the Air Force Academy in Pozzuoli.

The Poliba team (in the cover photo) was composed of Tiziano Albore, Domenico Mazzini, Christian Risi e Simone Micello, students of the master's degree program in Computer Science, Cybersecurity and Cloud curriculum; by Luigi Rutigliani, a student at ITS Apulia Digital Maker;  Antonio Antonelli, from the scientific high school – Applied Sciences option – “Galileo Galilei” in Bitonto. Completing the team, as tutors and accompanying staff, were Nicola Guerrera, also a master's student in Computer Science, and Professor Carmelo Ardito, director of the local node of the CINI Cybersecurity National Lab (National Interuniversity Consortium for Informatics) at the Polytechnic University of Bari.

The final of CyberChallenge.IT 2025 was held in the Attack and Defense, a highly realistic scenario in which each team was called upon to defend its digital services from external attacks while at the same time trying to breach those of its opponents, effectively a laboratory of offensive and defensive cybersecurity.

“This result is recognition of the commitment and skills of our students,” comments Professor Ardito, “and confirmation of the quality of the training offered by the Polytechnic University of Bari, in a field of great relevance and interest such as information security.” The members of the Poliba team reached the Turin competition after completing an intensive training path lasting more than three months, during which they explored complex topics such as cryptography, malware analysis, and the security of web, software, and hardware networks.

CyberChallenge.IT is an initiative of the CINI Cybersecurity National Lab, in collaboration with the National Cybersecurity Agency and with the support of numerous Italian universities. The program is one of the actions envisaged by Measure #65 of the Implementation Plan of the National Cybersecurity Strategy 2022–2026. A springboard for young talents in a rapidly growing sector.
